D&D 5E Greyhawk: Why We Need Mo' Oerth by 2024

Actually I can think of one selling point for Greyhawk. Artifacts. All the classics come from here. Not just the Eye and Hand of Vecna, but the Invulnerable Coat of Arnd, the Jacinth of Inestimable Beauty, the Teeth of Dahlver-Nar...make the setting about the power of artifacts changing and warping the world as each tries to make it's own destiny manifest.

Make Greyhawk the magic item setting! And bonus points if the Flying Scimitar of Tusmit makes an appearance!

I thought you didn't want to talk about WG4?

No. WG4 was the last great Greyhawk module in the WG series* (IMO), and arguably the last great and new Gygaxian AD&D writing published by TSR.

You're thinking of WG7.

(But as for the nameless one, no ... we don't summon that doom upon ourselves by taking the chance that the endless sleep will be disturbed, for those dreams alone are enough to shake this world)

*Yes, I also know that it was the first in the series.

Oh sorry, I could have sworn you made a negative comment about Tharizdun before. Must have been someone else.

AND THIS!

How in the name of Zeus's butthole not what you lead with?!

An invasion that isn't Worst Monster (zombies) or Boring Monster (Fiends)? This. Talk about this.

Competent and cool magic enemies that aren't just corpses with cool headgear or literally a dragon, which is so much more important than being a nerd with powers is something D&D needs.

If we hear more about this stuff and less about how it's old and traditional and--~snore~--Wha? Huh? Anyway, people will be more interested if the focus was on actual unique setting details instead of how it's in a rivalry with The Other One I Don't Care About.

In my defense, it was the first thing I thought of and typed out but then I noticed you asked for multiple examples and put the other stuff above it.

I liked WG5, too. It has one of my favorite covers.

Not to derail or anything, but this thread is reminiscent of the conversation my wife and I had last night while re-watching "John Carter," which was that Burroughs invented all these neat things that have been endlessly aped by successors, to the point where viewers and reviewers viewed "John Carter" as derivative and a knock-off of things such as Star Wars and Superman. It's a crying shame, as the source material has merit aside from being the source (though you can likely see from the fact that I was re-watching the movie that I tend to go to the source material rather than derivatives).
Tis the nature of the beast.

WotC just need to make it a competitor to my other favourite setting, Midnight, published for 5E by Edge Studio.

Maybe relaunch Greyhawk as a darker "mature content" line (EDIT: not going to happen, I know)? Give Edge Studio a run for the money, the same way Spelljammer is going to give Starfinder a run for its money. Truth be told, I would be fine with a Greyhawk reboot ditching most of the campaign's gonzo elements, no matter how definitive they might have been.

Would this not qualify as an attention grabbing product cover for younger gamers, especially if you slapped on a "Mature Audiences" sticker like they did on the 3.0 Book of Vile Darkness? "Evil" and controversy sell, as heavy metal bands know all too well. Even Disney is branching out into "adult" territory via Disney+ (however pathetic it may be)... and that's saying something.

EDIT: the title of that old boxed set is even perfect for 2024!
It would! Give me something like this that is FAR MORE DARK than other WotC content, and I'm sold.
