In 7 pages, no one said "Giant Vecna." That makes me sad!

With the release of Vecna's stats and a short adventure on D&D Beyond, does that mean he won't be in something else going forward? Aside from a popular show, anyway. I'm erring on the side of him not being the focus of an AP...mostly to keep my expectations in check, because I really want a Vecna-focused AP!

No. The stats might well be in some upcoming product, like the Saphire Dragon, or they might just be promotional. I don't think you can read too much into it either way.
I forgot about that sapphire dragon! I feel like Fizban's came out like 2 years after that...might be a reasonable timeline for something, if it happens.

I think Fizban was delayed for some reason and the gap between the Saphire Dragon and the full release was longer than intended. But that's just speculation.

Two years is about right for the time from starting work on a product to release though. The timeline would probably start from Stranger Things asking WotC if they could use Vecna, and WotC thinking "that's a good idea, let's do something with Vecna". Work starts on a Vecna adventure, but that won't be released for a couple of years, so put out the art and stat block now whilst its current.

Having struggled with it myself, I would really like to see if WotC can pull off a high level adventure book. Connecting it to the obelisks would allow it to be run as a sequel to any of those WotC adventures that feature an obelisk.

Prediction:

Giant monster book first quarter 2023
Vecna adventure book fourth quarter 2023
Buck Rogers boxed Set......

Yeah, in a recent interview, Perkins said it's about a year once work starts on the book in earnest, but that there is an additional year of conceptual work that goes on during a final project: so Perkins started planning out how he would do Spelljammer when the pandemic began. So they probably had a rough idea on the drawing table when they put out the Sapphire block, but didn't start in earnest until mid-late 2020, when they put the Draconic Subclass UA together.

We do know they had "Volo's but with Dragons" on the drawing board since 2016 at least, because Volo's says that they would like to try the same approach with Fiends, Gith, Dragons, and...Undead. 3 down, 1 to go.

Other thought: James Wyatt was put on Fizban's pretty much immediately after coming back to the D&D Studio from the Magic Studio. The Sapphire anniversary set came out in late 2019, after Mearls exited his role. Based on the history of the products that Mearls worked on, the follow to Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes, Mayne featuring Dragons, would have been a likely next book for him...

And 2020 throwing everything into chaos probably didn't help with the production timelines either...

When the sapphire dragon stat block was released, they definitely said that we should see more on them "next year", but obviously all the things mentioned so far, and probably some things we don't even know about, caused that to actually end up being two years later.

Yeah, crazy time.

There is no mention of giants in anything we have seen about the First World.
This is from the MM and sounds like the First World to me.

"Giants are almost as old as dragons, which were still young when the giants' heavy feet first shook the foundations of the world. As they spread across new lands, giants and dragons fought bitter generational wars that nearly brought both sides low."
