A Title Much Cooler Than Anything on the Old Site
Curious why your own age? How close do you think they need to be? For me, basically my dividing line is legal adult. I'm 51. I really don't find any difference playing with people in the their 50s versus 30s or 40s. For people in their 20s, I think it is more that folks at that age are not so interested in playing with older people, though that is probably more true for folks in their early 20s.

Well, one advantage to gaming with geezers (speaking as one) is that RL is much less a factor. Marriage, reproduction, pointless spawn events, and all that tend to be behind us. Schedules tend to be easily managed.

Speaking as another old fogie (over 50)... while my schedule isn't packed like it once was, it's still busy... Dr appts, mine, the wife's, my mother's, the adult child still yet to graduate, membership meetings for various organizations... my time is only slightly less busy than when I was working...

For a one shot you have 3.5 hours ( plus 30 mins of faffing before the start).
As a GM in a one shot you really are there to entertain the players ( if needed).
The scenario needs to start with a very strong hook, Indeed the hook should be in you so the first scene is always high action ( of whatever type) that the PCs cannot lose. This gets everyone's focus, let's everyone do cool win stuff, everyone appreciated each other, bonding, etc. It should short enough to resolve quickly, but long enough for everyone to shine if they wish. Maybe the overall goal is revealed, the main BBEG is hinted but most of all there is clear stuff for the PCs to do next. Not necessarily super railroad but " Ah yes, we can do A, B or C".

Never ever ever allow Mr* Cool Lone Wolf to go shopping. This will kill the game.

- Bad back (work injuries during time working for the national archives)
- PTSD (not military service related - teaching related.)
- Bad knee (injured on the ice while teaching - two surgeries now)
- Bipolar
- Migraines
- Repetitive stress injuries all 8 fingers and both thumbs.

I feel as though I have more common ground with people closer to my own age than I do with others. And it's typically easier to maintain a schedule with someone around my age than it is younger people. I've got younger coworkers in their 20s who are good people I enjoy working with, but I don't want to hang with any of them (and I'm sure the feeling is mutual).
