What? For the OP example, the PC suspects it is a mimic, and is right. In another scenario it might be an ordinary trapped chest so, no, not always a mimic.

If the chest was not a mimic, there would be no way to tell if it was ordinary. Therefore, if you know the chest looks ordinary, is has to be a mimic.
