D&D 5E Toxicity in the Fandom

if a critical faction emerged who was just film criticism but no bigotry I would happily join them but I have yet to find them.
Go look up the thread about the all-girl Ghostbusters remake.

I observed that the four lead actresses did not have a decade of experience working together the way Ramis / Ackroyd / Murray did and would have a rougher time bouncing off (and improving) each others' work.
That comment disappeared without even leaving ripples. It was more interesting to slam the film's critics as "they hate women".

Yes we film critics exist but it is tough to find an audience willing to engage.

TLDR...
I say that partly in jest. It is ugly out there, and even in here (ENWorld) I find many threads devolve into uselessness (for me). I avoid most social media, even though I spend far too much time on the parts I do. But for me, the secret is not to stay too long, particularly not in any given tread/topic.

For me, I just have to be very selective in what threads I read, which ones I get engaged with, and be ready and willing to disengage as soon as it becomes questionable. Gotta do what's right for me, no need to defend myself or correct other's stupidity G

Right, the trick is to paint anyone with criticism, with the same brush as those with 'incompatible views of the world' as you then get to dismiss said criticism as 'hateful'.

It happens, and companies are now doing it with their media projects.

Fandom's are toxic? Sure, some are, have been, and there always will be segments that are.

Painting 'fandom' as toxic? That's a more recent development, and media companies are doing it to deflect, or dismiss, criticism of their products.

That to. Sometimes the toxic fans are actually right just not their tales or how they're expressing it.

Few years ago criticizing sequel trilogy was verboten but I think Rise of Skywalker put an end to that. Yes it was actually stupid.

Going after the actors though is silly they did there job better than say the PT. Problem there was Lucas problem in ST was the writing.

I wouldn't change the casting of the ST in any significant way although side characters might get cut.

Yeah, I didnt think anything of most of the characters as far as casting, and Rey was fine. The writing, is what was noticeably terrible to me lol.

I am not dismissing all criticism as hateful as I am also a critic of it. I am merely I am dismissive of certain criticism for being from a place of blind irrationality.

I am perfectly aware companies try to silence all criticism by painting it all as hateful, the problem being that they do genuinely have a problem with bigoted people in fandoms who are honestly what they describe and it is hard to get the proper criticism when you have thousands of bigots and troll who will wear the legitimate criticisms as a trojan horse to recruit more to their sick cult.
hard to have a reasonable discussion when you have an excrement-flinging guy in the room if you catch my meaning.

believe me, I am rather aware of the horrible people that recruit on the net as it is both my area of study and the fact I come from the same basic stock as them, me and them being reflections of each other it is not something I like.

I do not doubt it but there are genuine bad actors who do honestly hate the film because it has female leads, companies will happily use the bigots as a shield from honest criticism and I hate them for it but companies are not exactly easy to do anything about and it is hard to come off as right when a whole bunch of jerks will use you as a shield for their horrible views.
welcome to the modern world, there is a reason I believe we live in a dystopia.

Yeah only cast members I would cut would be ones where the plotlines would be cut.

Broadly speaking I would have tied the movies togather a bit more even with basic things like Coruscant being the capital. I guess they changed it to blow them up.

"Here's a planet you don't know about that none of the character care about. We're gonna blow up 5 of them".

blowing up coruscant would have worked far better I saw some re-imaginings of the overall grand scale plot of the sequels by the Templin Institut on youtube which was quite interesting.
