"Paper Girls" on Prime (Possible Spoilers)

Has anyone else watched "Paper Girls" on Prime? It's based on the Image Comics series by the same name. Despite the main characters all being 12 years old, this is not a kids' series. People die in the "time war." And does anyone else think that, apart from the different eye colour, that one of the leads is a dead ringer for a 12 year old Tybee Diskin?

I finished it on Friday. I haven't read the source material, though I'm told the show deviates from it significantly. I'm not sure the show has a solid grip on its time travel logic, which I find a drawback.

The acting, though, is excellent. And they aren't hsying away from death and other issues.

I was aware of the source, but have also never read it. The girls are playing more mature than their supposed age would tend to imply, but with obvious holes in their life knowledge. It works. I think that the time travel logic both does and doesn't work in that so far there has really only been one incident that carried consequence in a future encounter, when there could have been many more. Maybe their TTL just hasn't been presented to us, fully formed, as of yet?

I think we underestimate kids, and I'll note that each one of them, in turn, has major issues coping with what is going on, so I'm not sure they're being played too mature for their age.

That is possible. I am, as yet, unconvinced that there is a logic.

I finished it and I've read the comics (which are excellent).

In some ways, Amazon's Paper Girls is better than Netflix's Sandman adaptation, and that pains me to say because I have much more affection for Gaiman's seminal work. Not to say Sandman was bad.

There's a respect for the characters that's refreshing. They seem believable, even under the extraordinary situations the travel travel story puts them in (unlike, say Stranger Things as it went on). This is definitely the kind of show that uses its fantastic elements more as tools to explore its characters.

I do miss the... ahem... spectacle of the time travel/time war stuff in the comics. But clearly they didn't have the budget for that, and wisely chose to focus on the personal drama, which was always the core of the story.

And the acting & dialogue are great. I even like the somewhat stunt-cast role of Grandfather.

Oh, we definitely do under estimate some kids. It's not a complaint. I quite like it.

The main incident being that they aren't there, anymore, to be encountered in later life. I'm going to go with "divergent time streams", however, that does make the walkie-talkie incident the outlier.
