nope... we know every edition sells better then the one before and that right now D&D is on an upswing in pop culture... nothing in this shows 5e to be any better or any worse then any other edition (It isn't better then the one I hate and wont play again, it isn't worse then my favorite) just that each edition gets bigger and that the current pop culture is helping D&DI mean ... that's balderdash. Claptrap. Hogwash. Bosh. Codswallop.
5e's popularity is so far beyond prior versions that this is the equivalent of saying, "Sure, I know we're renting the apartment, but I really wanted to remodel the whole thing!"
