WotC Rumor: OGL will not be supported starting with One D&D

When I hear a rumour and the source is "trust me bro", I look to see who is telling the story.

Considering that youtubers reputation, I think of the kind of person he hangs with, a consultant toxic enough to work for WOTC then throw out the rumor so that his friend can get a few extra YouTube views from the D&D fans praying WOTC fail one day.

I'm guessing this is a wild exaggeration of something out of context.

Regardless, the original OGL is all anyone needs for 5e. You don't need a new SRD just because the monsters may or may not crit.

Yep, he sounded familiar and when I looked him up, I had heard of him from when he tried to sue the admins of a Discord server for banning him. So it's not like he never overreacts or tries to stir up drama for YouTube views. ;)

So when I read the initial rumor, as someone who has worked with the OGL for 20+ years as well, I was extremely dubious. Then I saw who started the rumor and it lost any shred of credibility whatsoever.

Wait, this particular YouTuber? He tried suing?

Yup. He at least threatened (according to multiple of the admins, I was just a spectator on that Discord). To be fair, I doubt it actually went anywhere past being threats and more YouTube content to generate views, but I don't know. It was in September 2020, I believe.

Hope this isn't too much of a tangent, but I suppose source credibility might be relevant.

Meh don't care. Might grognard out the next edition anyway due to rl stuff.
My plan is maybe another PHB, the Giant book and Planescape and I’ll get the new PHB to check it out but sticking to 5e. D&DOne doesn’t look to offer the backwards compatibility promised but also is making changes I find meh or just plain nutty like no crits for monsters. I have been playing more DCC anyway but I love 5e and like a 3.5 grognard in 2008, see no reason to convert to the new edition.

Yeah I'm barely using my existing 5E material so a new edition doesn't appeal when I haven't finished with Xanathars let alone Tasha's.
