This epic war story begins with an invitation to a friend's funeral and three optional prelude encounters that guide you into the world of Krynn. Amy Dallen is joined by Eugenio Vargas to share some details about how these opening preludes work and some advice on using them in your own D&D games.

There is also information on the three short 'prelude' adventures which introduce players to the world of Krynn:
  • Eye in the Sky -- ideal for sorcerers, warlocks, wizards, or others seeking to become members of the Mages of High Sorcery.
  • Broken Silence -- ideal for clerics, druids, paladins, and other characters with god-given powers.
  • Scales of War -- ideal for any character and reveals the mysterious draconians.
The article discusses Session Zero for the campaign and outlines what to expect in a Dragonlance game -- war, death, refugees, and so on.

Extreme good is also unhealthy, since it results in people who are willing to murder 10,000 innocents in order to save 10 million. The ends justify the means to achieve the greater good. All of the extremes are bad.
killing 10,000 innocents is not a good act... it is easy to lable "too much good" but when you need evil to be the act it defeats the whole argument... that isn't 'too much good' that's 'someone was good and turned evil'

it seems like that sometimes when I hear about murder hobos and people who just kill cause... but murder is NOT what happens when you kill in self defense or defense of other... I would say in my own experience that is how 80-90% of deaths occure in game, but on here and on some other sites people are all like "I came across these things in the dungeon so of course I killed them"
Many years ago when I first started DMing with my current group one of them cast detect evil at a tavern. I informed him that one of the people sitting with a group having dinner was evil. He told me that he was going to draw his sword and kill him. At that point I let him know, because apparently the player wasn't aware, that if he did he would be murdering an unarmed man who was just having dinner and would be arrested and tried if caught. The player was like, "But he's evil." And my response was, "It's not a crime to be evil. It's a crime to commit evil acts including murdering a guy who is just having dinner."

Going back to the Lady of Pain then...
not an example of a PC, and not a good alinged NPC (normally seen as neutral but I could much easier make an argument for evil then good)
Sigil is a major planar hub that has that distinction due its neutral ground status.
and got it in 1... neutral, not good.
If deities could enter, Sigil would be a war zone and people would die. If the LoP gained enough followers, she would ascend to divinity and be unable to protect Sigil. So she kills open worshippers to dissuade others from worshipping her and thus protects the citizens of Sigil from being destroyed in a war or conquer Sigil.
and that act is not good, she is notgood and I am unaware of any books lableing her good.
Not much different than killing a cult of demon worshippers to stop a demon lord from being summoned and destroying a kingdom.
hey look you got to defense of other:
stop a demon lord from being summoned and destroying a kingdom
So if we agree neither scenario is evil or murder, we can move on.
it depends... do the PCs know if the cult is trying to destroy a kingdom, and no... the lady of pain is most def Murderer.

It's also evil to let 10 million people die when you could save them.

I happen to agree with you by the way, but I've seen a lot of people argue here that the ends justify the means when it comes to being good.

seems right... a new player may need to be told 'hey murder is wrong' on your side here... I just (again) don't think this is common practice in 2022

Not if you think of it as Team Cosmic Good and Team Cosmic Evil, which Dragonlance does. The problem is, you don’t like that and want Dragonlance to be something it's not. The same way you feel about the Order of High Sorcery. You don't like the narrative underpinnings of the setting. DL is not reliant on 21st century definitions of good and evil.
