Level Up (A5E) Is Ranger ability Expert Foraging objectively better than Huntsman?

Or am I missing something? With Expert Foraging, you get 2-6 supply per day that also restores 2-6 hp, and with Huntsman, you get 0-2 supply per day, with an (extremely unlikely) possibility of a level of fatigue for everyone.

It's almost like, after nerfing Goodberry for cooler travel stories, they gave the original spell to the Ranger as an ability.

well, remember at first level rangers get a feature that doubles the supply they get from hunt and gather in any natural terrain (i.e., uh...any time you'd actually need to hunt and gather), which bumps it up to 0-4 per day. i'd think you'd want both until at least 9th level since the average party size to my knowledge is 4 people and expert foraging alone won't cover that.

but i mean yeah if you had to pick one or the other expert foraging would be the better option

There may be opportunities to improve Huntsman with the right synergies. A Grade 2 Encampment will help bump it, and I could see future items or abilities providing more synergies. That being said, probably not worth investing that much in a problem that can normally be solved with 5 silver.

Yeah Expert Foraging is superior to Huntsman and should always be taken first. You take huntsman if you want to upgrade your survival training to the max.

I have to admit that being able to gather enough food to feed 2+ people for a day in a few minutes without magic stretches my disbelief much more than being more awesome at hunting, but I'm loving all of this LU stuff a ton and thanks for the responses!

I'm currently watching the TV show Alone, which features people trying to survive by themselves in tough environments. Seeing how difficult it is to hunt and gather has been eye opening. I get why Rangers are naturally magical in 5e and LU.

Yeah, I love Alone, but it really shows you how hard hunting and foraging actually is. I wouldn't mind a little more verisimilitude on that score in LU.
