Level Up (A5E) Is Ranger ability Expert Foraging objectively better than Huntsman?

Feels like Huntsman should give you advantage on Hunt and Gather and one other activity - that way its a trade off of being more flexible whilst the others are more focused.

I have to admit that being able to gather enough food to feed 2+ people for a day in a few minutes without magic stretches my disbelief much more than being more awesome at hunting, but I'm loving all of this LU stuff a ton and thanks for the responses!

LU does stretch the mundane a bit at times. Take the fighter ability that lets you tell what the cr of any creature is.

It’s actually crazy what you can do with it.

“Does that statue has a Cr?”
“Yes cr 5”
“Everyone that statue is probably a golem or something watch out”

“Does that treasure chest have a CR?”
“Yes cr 3”
“All that’s probably a mimic”

“What is the CR of that “epic wizard”
“Cr 5”
“Guys that wizard is weak, take him out!”

“What is the dinosaurs CR over there?”
“That is not a creature with a CR”
“Guys that probably an illusion or something it’s not an actual threat”

No save, no protection, the fighter can do all this and more with just one “non magical” ability

The statue is a statue unless the fighter -knows- it's not a statue. Because he can only go off the information he -has-. If he thinks it's a statue it's a statue. Same with the Chest. Same with the Dino-illusion.

The Wizard, though, fits just fine.

Heck, for the Dino-Illusion I'd just list off the Dino's CR as if it were real unless the Fighter knew, somehow, that it wasn't.

That's very funny, but I don't see letting a PC get away with most of this.

Ok, that feels like a rule as written vs intended. I would never presume that being able to determine somethings CR means you can tell whether or not it has a statblock at all.
