Dragonlance Free Monstrous Compendium Volume II Includes Dragon Highlord Verminaard

Over on D&D Beyond you can grab a copy of Dragonlance Creatures, the second digital official Monstrous Compendium volume. This volume includes entries from the original Dragonlance Chronicles storyline of the 1980s, such as Dragon Highlord Verminaard (at CR 17!) and his dragon, Ember, along with the Forest Master (the unicorn from Darken Wood) and others.

VERMINAARD AS A CR 17 holy hell

He is pretty impressive. My only worry is his low HP, but he does have bonus action heal so that helps.

I just realized Ember was supposed to be an Ancient Red instead of an Adult red (though significantly buffed adult red). I'm a little disappointed by that, but nothing I can't fix!

Outside of your write ups, another method to do it is to just take the Ancient Red Dragon stat block from Fizban's and just apply all of Ember's stuff from this onto that.

Nice! Some missing DL monsters/NPCs that were (reasonably) skipped because they didn't have much to do with the actual adventure.
Nice to see them updated!

Or OR a subtle hint that once you finish shadow of the Dragonqueen, there’s a whole series of adventures you can do and here’s some free conversion work wink wink wink

Oh yeah 100% I’m just looking at this from a conversion standpoint and I’m like “oh. Uh. Guess 5th level as the start for Dragons of Autumn isn’t the intended anymore!”

Lol, from what some people said in the Lord Soth thread, apparently a group of level 5 characters should be able to down a CR 17 without breaking a sweat!

Ok. New Verminaard art makes WAY more sense (red dragon commander getting red armor) but I will say that since I already finished my custom mini for him with blue armor, I’m a hair sad.

Do you mean great wyrm? There is no ancient red dragon stat block in Fizban's
