Dragonlance Free Monstrous Compendium Volume II Includes Dragon Highlord Verminaard

Over on D&D Beyond you can grab a copy of Dragonlance Creatures, the second digital official Monstrous Compendium volume. This volume includes entries from the original Dragonlance Chronicles storyline of the 1980s, such as Dragon Highlord Verminaard (at CR 17!) and his dragon, Ember, along with the Forest Master (the unicorn from Darken Wood) and others.

WotC did the same with Spelljammer, with Volume 1 of the Monstrous Compendium.

I also realized Ember gets a +15 damage modifier to his melee attacks. +9 from strength then maybe +6 from Charisma? Maybe that is Takhisis's blessing?

They've been around since the 2e Dragonlance Monsrous Compendium at least.
OK. But have they ever appeared in an adventure or novel?

Also, I like that Ember has some unique abilities. I wonder if that is a preview of what we might see for dragons in the revised MM. It seems to me like the pendulum of monster design might be swinging back in the 4e direction, which is a good thing in my book.

I still see room for improvement. There a things to like, definitely, but they need to do more with dragons IMO.
