Coming soon, to an internet argument near you:

Joe: What's your favorite type of Tiefling?
Bob: Aasimar. What's yours?
Joe: Genasi.
Kevin: (banging on the desk) THOSE AREN'T TIEFLINGS!
Joe: (shrugs)
Bob: (shrugs)
Kevin: THEY ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!
Joe: ...are they, though?
yes as tiefling are defined by having fiendish connections, we do need a generic name for the planar-touched people which is easy to say/type.

In my home game, I have "tiefling" as a local term for "weird people descended from ancient unions with beings from Outside." So, I (who hate subraces in general) actually have several tiefling subraces: one for fiendish-descended people, one for faerie-descended people, and one for Lovecraftian-horror-descended people. If I had a player request it, I would add one for celestial-descended people, but keep in mind celestials in my home game are "Biblically-accurate angels," so they would probably resemble the Lovecraftian-horror-descended people...
