D&D (2024) Lifetime boycott of D&D-branded products?

Yeah, it kind of goes back to that comment "Funny, you live in a society." or whatever that meme is. Boycott McDonalds? Easy. I've done that since I was 15. Boycott CHINA? lol good luck on the farmstead my friends.

I buy stuff like clothing probably from China.

This cellphone is 5 years old I've got a new Samsung but haven't got around to changing the sim over. Or charging it.

If the intention is to boycott Hasbro-WotC, then buying used copies of books is sorta like doing a free infomercial on their behalf to help propagate Hasbro-WotC.

Feels like only buying out of print ones from used bookstores is supporting small businesses and not encouraging purchase of newer printings?

Since you list having things printed in the US as a big concern, you might want to check your WotC produced titles individually. Going through our collection just now, our DMG, Tasha's, Xanathar's, Monsters of the Multiverse, Ebberon, Hoard of the Dragon Queen, Volo, Sword Coast, Princes of the Apocalypse, Essentials Kit, Creatures Campaign Case, and Spell Book Cards Ranger were all printed in China.

I had thought they were all printed US like the PHB until I checked.

And that is significantly more important than the "Open Gaming" kerfuffle. I had checked a large number of the books in the past, and they were printed in the U.S., I'll be taking another look at that.

Perfection is impossible. As long as cooperation with rail remains remote and material, I don't sweat it. Feel compelled to buy fair trade coffee and sugar, because thst crosses a line into formal cooperation instead of just material.

For me, it depends 100% on the extirpation of the Anti-OGL.

If the Anti-OGL or the threat of a future one is still in play by next Friday, I will never say the words "Dungeons & Dragons" again except to destroy it.



The only way that D&D could be saved is if Hasbro-WotC sells the D&D trademarks to a wiser steward of the D&D culture.



Better yet. Hasbro-WotC transfer every SRD plus 1e-2e and 4e plus the Open Gaming Content rights of the OGL 1.0a to the new ORC license that Paizo et al are putting together!

@Scribe said upthread that they thought only the first printings were done in the US. I didn't check what printings ours were, just where. (Looked like about 2/3 or so were China). In any case WotC does seem to print there quite a bit :-(

Yeah, pretty sure I read it somewhere. I think it was when I was looking into when they stealth removed the Wall of the Faithless from SCAG that I was looking into it.

Thus is why 1E will win the edition wars. It's the only one that can physically survive the apocalypse.
