Writing can always be improved, whether for a college essay or a corporate statement.
They didn't try to make a stealth change to the statement to slip in a new clause or comment. They just punched up the language.
It's not a big deal.

This is really just another example of how you just cannot win when you're the Enemy of the Week on social media. Nothing WotC can do for the next few days will do anything but add fuel to the fire. There's NO way to win when you engage with people on social media.
They could be offering free kittens and sexual favours and they'd get hate about not offering the choice of puppies.

WotC should have just remained silent, let people get distracted by the next source of outrage, and then quietly release the updated OGL they're working on.
Hasbro plant? LOL 🙃

Of course it isn't. But it's mildly amusing to mock them for it, and they have earned several years' worth of mockery over the last week.

Every player I’ve ever known says “rolled a 1”, or “got a 1”.
Despite it rarely actually mattering at every table I've ever played at that would be greated with curiousity about whether it was a natural 1, or a modified 1 (though it would be rare to actually say "modified"), so people learn to specify. And most people I know get very excited about the nat 1s and the nat 20s, and want to share. Though I suppose as often as not what I actually do is look at the nat 1, laugh, and hold up a singular finger while mouthing "one".

In any case the image they were presumably trying to evoke was a one on the die, and if they are trying to sell "we're gamers just like you" they should have said that in a clear and authentic and evocative way, rather than one that makes me wonder if they actually rolled a 5 but it just came up 1 because of their very negative Int modifier and lack of proficiency.

Untrue.
1: We don't want kitten and sex - well some of us do, but not from WotC.
2: Of course WotC can do something. All WotC has to do is make 1.0a irrevocable. A simple, ironclad gesture with substance.
Do you really think for a SECOND that had the blog instead said something to the effect of "we've heard the community and are doubling down on the protection for the OGL with the 1.0b, which is the same as the 1.0a but adds a clause making it extra double irrevocable!" that any of the people mad at WotC would calm down and forgive them?

Have people EVER forgiven someone on the internet?
Look through the responses to the WotC blog and all the people saying it changes nothing or they've already shown their intentions or how we should judge them for their actions.
People don't forgive online. They stay angry until their ire is redirected to someone else and fades towards the former target.

I'll be honest, this sounds more like you're using this situation to rant about some nebulous "online people" who ALWAYS do certain things, apparently.

And yes, I do think if WotC actually made meaningful, concrete steps to correct their hostile actions towards the community, many people would in fact forgive them. I find it strange to say they would not, it almost feels like you want to just say that the community is irrationally angry and WotC is in fact right to treat them with disdain and dishonesty.
