D&D 5E So this is how D&D 5e dies, a beautiful start only to die in disgrace because of mismanagement. RIP 5e

Your posts show you have zero sympathy for any position that isn't "This is fine" so how exactly would that change?

So the fact that I say that I am sympathetic and this is a fight worth having means I have no sympathy.

At no point did I say this was fine. I DID say that at this point in time nothing has actually changed. Because it hasn’t.

But yeah, I’m the one not listening or showing zero interest in actual discussion.

I just check puzzle and game reference books, where most RPGs live on Amazon. The best selling RPG, non-D&D is Cthulu at 22 and Zweihander Starter is at 25. These have both leapt up a significant amount.

They're selling much less than the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide.

D&D is still the king.
A book that the gamer zeitgeist assumes is terrible, lol.

Last year I'd thought that One D&D was a minor edition change that was functionally the next phase of D&D 5e.

With this OGL situation it seems clear 5e is dying and will be dead before the end of the year.
5e is not dying, nor will it be dead by the end of the year. It will likely take a small hit, but it will get an update in 2024 as planned and continue for a while after that.
So much potential, never fully realized, now it's over, or soon to be over RIP 5e.
5e is pretty realized at this point, so much so that this fact is what will likely lead to its end, not the current OGL issues.

Yep, I just checked and the 5e PHB is at #120 in all books. This is really good, and approximately what it has been for the last 2 years or so. If it isn't taking a big hit now, I find it unlikely it will in the future. But things change, so who knows!

No it won't.

People are grossly underestimating the amount of people that:

1- Have no idea that that the current OGL nonsense is even going on, and will keep buying WotC D&D.

2- The amount that know, don't care, and will continue to consume WotC D&D anyway...

People forget how long 4e stayed on top as the #1 RPG...

The vampires want to know when WotC is going to apologize for the vampires wearing morrion (the helmt used by Spanish conquerors) in Ixalan. The morrion is the symbol of the "Tercios", the troops used by the Spanish empire in the worst anti-vampire genocide in the History ( Wellcome!).

Now seriously, we know the rules about politically corectness have changed, and even the sitcom Friends is not wellcome among some members of the youngest generations.

OK, we don't like any actions by WotC. I don't like to see sourcebooks published by rival companies with the same number of pages were cheaper and with more "crunch" and/or "fluff". Or after awaiting years to can buy the translated version "Volo's Guide of Monsters" I have to await again to buy the update "Moderkainen monsters of the multiverse".

D&D has suffered worse times.

Other thing would be Epic Games creating a new open licence for a computer version of Fortnite: Save the World: CRPG.

As a 4e fan, it's hard not to have a "sips-tea" reaction here. Seeing all the potential, all the good things, all the places where the designers gave people exactly what they asked for, but because they did something stupid, it's all going to get burned to the ground, and the game you've invested time and interest into will get torn into, misinterpreted, and mocked for reasons that have nothing to do with its quality or effectiveness. So many great things that will never get made because of problems entirely separate from the game.

I mean, to be fair, if WotC put out something like 4E again they would lose my business. Same of they drop physical books and go all digital. Or it turns out that WotC is an elaborate front for sexual abuse. There are limits. The OGL just...isn't a limit for me.
