As promised earlier this week, WotC has posted the draft OGL v.1.2 license for the community to see.

A survey will be going live tomorrow for feedback.

The current iteration contains clauses which prohibit offensive content, applies only to TTRPG books and PDFs, no right of ownership going to WotC, and an optional creator content badge for your products.

One important element, the ability for WotC to change the license at-will has also been addressed, allowing the only two specific changes they can make -- how you cite WotC in your work, and contact details.

This license will be irrevocable.

The OGL v1.0a is still being 'de-authorized'.

I mean, I care about those changes, but those changes are utterly meaningless given WOTC's ability to completely terminate the new OGL with their morality clause.
this is going round and round... I see a victory you see a loss.
Not really, though? Once they've destroyed the original OGL, you can't get it back. They've gotten what they want. You've basically lost.
me no... you maybe. Some OC creators yes. I didn't lose anything, you need to start from the point that I do not see myself as losing here. If you want to convince me (or others like me) to continue fighting you can't start with "But you lost" because that is already not how we see it.
I mean, this absolutely does not do that. It has been pointed out multiple times that this does not assure that at all. They can just unilaterally cancel anyone's ability to make content through this, and by
it doesn't say they can JUST canlce anyone for any reason... but the reason they can use mods told us to not talk about.
I never called you a liar. I've simply pointed out that you are very eager for a compromise, or whatever is being sold as such. You eagerly defended the morality clause, too, which is basically the superlaser of their OGL Death Star. I think that you are just really quick to forgive on this, which is why I don't really see your threat as a real one.
Here we go (toeing the line of getting this shut down or us booted) I agree with the clause we can't debate here. You disagree with it. If you want me to change you can't start from "But your wrong" that isn't an argument... but we CAN'T have an argument about it bacuase it is a topic baned for now.
Yes, I know how compromise work. I get assurances on what I want, they get assurances on what they want. They may not get everything I want, nor will I.
okay you only miss 1 part now... everyone here has to decide what they will and wont accept. If you want to change minds you need to start from understanding what that mind cares about.
This deal is not a compromise. It's a surrender.
see this is it... the surrender of WHAT?!?! I got most of what I want and only a little of what I didn't, what did I surrender?
They can unilaterally and without remedy cancel all these contracts if they so desire while also deauthorizing OGL 1.0a. We get nothing, they get everything.
that isn't true they need a reason, and if they do it for a reason US, the PUBLIC CUSTOMERS don't like we have already shown what happens...

someone did the evil version of the pavlovas dog (please don't really do this) and hit the puppy with the rolled up newspaper for doing something wrong... now it is incentivized by not wanting to get hit by it again to not do it again.

As long as they are NOT weaponizing that deathstar laser as you call it, we reward them with treats (we buy books go to movies and talk about and play D&D) over time they like the reward and dislike the punishment... so they continue to do what we want.
No, they don't need you because they already have you.
they have no more money from me today then they did last Monday. they have no promise of said money (I guess since I plan to see the movie they have that).
If they go back they DO have me saying not only will I not buy more D&D I will activly promote TORG Rifts and other NOT EVEN OGL/NonD&D games... aka they not only don't have me, they run a HUGE risk of turning me into the 1 thing they don't want... anti-D&D
No, they're just able to convince people with fake concessions that they don't need to be held to to get what they want.
this is nuts, why would I NOT stand up if they went back on this?
What did they give in?
royalties... that's the biggest, and they made the overall concept/system CC (or atleast are offering to)
They get what they want and they can completely renege on their side of things because they have a morality clause that allows them to nuke the entire thing from orbit with no arbitration.
We can't discus the morality clause but I do support those clauses... and if they get weaponized I 100% support turning against the company doing so... making it MAD. If they do it everyone loses.
They absolutely are okay with screwing people.
right they aren't out to do it, they don't win by doing it and loseing stuff or doing it and getting nothing... they just dont care
I've posted examples already of them attempting to do that, and breaking good-faith contracts to do so. The evidence that they will simply go back on their word far outweighs the idea that they'll just give up, and what they've put in the OGL gives them an out on this.
and if they launch nukes MAD kicks in and we stop paying them...
When discussing the boycott of D&D i was VERY clear if they do what you say i will go to a completely different system.
Sure, you can say you got what you wanted. But the reality of the contract doesn't reflect that.
i see you didnt get what you wanted but what didnt I get?
Actually, I think I understand cause and effect here better than you.
yet you think they can do the same cause for different effects
They thought they could get away with it in the open, so they went as hard as they did with 1.1. With 1.2, they've had to make a cursory attempt to hide their intent.
and what did they hide?
I mean, they'll have gotten what they wanted in killing the OGL 1.0a. I just have no faith that the group that says "Oh, if they do again we'll totally stop them" when their version of a compromise is already giving WOTC to do this again without any sort of consequences or guardrails.
we are the gaurdrails

Some people have nice conversations with brick walls.
THis is getting very personal... knock it off. I am talking in good faith and you are calling me a brick wall.
You saying it is un called for might be seen as hateful against either people that like talking to brick walls or brick walls themselves.
no this entire sentence is nonsense... but lets ask a mod, Is what I said hateful @Umbran if so I will (as I always do) apologize.
As the OGL draft says WOTC has the sole right to decide what conduct or content is hateful.

So we all should be careful :)
again, if it is weaponized we just start this all over again

Classes, Spells, Monsters.
okay correct me if I am wrong (and I am honestly asking here, this is not some weird argument in the form of a question)
If Pathfinder and Level up (as I understand them) have classes of there own and Monsters and Spells of there own, what else is needed?

TSR was notorious for that kind of despicable behavior back in the day. Games Workshop have gone on two similar rampages during my still quite short life on this planet.

This is specifically part of the truce that the original OGL set out to achieve.
a company that is out of business for 25+ years and a company that has no steak (that I know of) in owl bears will sue for referencing a thersitical (not even real just in theory) out of print book by a publisher that isn't them that has gone out of business...

To be clear, the VTT is separate issue from the OGL. All the OGL says is: you have to use their VTT policy. So holding off on the OGL because of the VTT doesn't make a lot of sense. Unless you are saying you want it included in the OGL, which I don't think is ever going to happen and I am OK with that. Let them be separate.

It is also relevant that the de-authorization of 1.0(a) is also separate from the OGL. The OGL 1.2 does not de-authorize 1.0(a).
Exactly. And the terms of that external (to the contract) policy can be changed at any time.
