D&D (2024) New One D&D Playtest Includes 5 Classes & New Weapon Mastery System

The latest playtest packet for One D&D has just landed, and features five classes (Barbarian, Fighter, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard) and the new Weapon Mastery system.

In this new Unearthed Arcana document for the 2024 Core Rulebooks, we explore material designed for the next version of the Player’s Handbook. This playtest document presents the rules on the Weapon Mastery property, updates to weapons, new and revised spells, several new feats, and five classes: Barbarian, Fighter, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard. And that's fair, though I much prefer this Warlock as SlingPlayer between full caster and Gish.

Sure. I can certainly see use cases for both play styles to be effective. Which is why it's good the game is backwards compatible and both are available.

Barbarian might be about the same, but Berserker is MUCH better.

Yeah, I'm having a little trouble evaluating that. I don't know if I could write that ability more awkwardly. Just give me a table!

That would be really good, IMO, if true.

That's what it's going to be no matter what they say as the fighter now needs to beg off a Long Rest just like the casters. All the casters.

So only the rogue can actually keep going depending on their subclass.

I really hope/hoped they would change the Barbarian class name Berserker or something.

If they can change Thief to Rogue they can change Barbarian. How do you train to become a barbarian? "I'm training to be less civilized".

Just go back to the old definition for Barbarian: "Non-Roman"

For Cleave I will either allow you to add your ability modifier to damage or remove the ability penalty aspect. Either your ability matters or it doesn't.

A bunch of the new spells feel like the should be class features. Scribe scroll most of all.

The warlock player in my game is not going to be happy to lose her powerword kill.

So what you're saying is that the new Mystic Arcanum replaces the old invocations that no one bothered to take because they were just bad choices? And that you can burn all your invocations to not keep up with a caster of the same level due to a lack both of flexibility and volume?

yup to play a full caster warlock the way I can right now it takes a 3rd level-9th level mystic arcunum so 7 of my invocations

For fiction purposes, I'd prefer you not being able to Topple creatures more than 1 size larger than you..... (I'm commenting as I read).

I'd like bleed (target loses 1 or 2 hp per round until healed or something) to be a property, but I understand why it isn't.
