D&D 5E Amazon US book sales rank.

Wow, the worst adventures are number 1 and 2.
As they point out, it's the two Campaigns with "Dragon" in the title. And even though I would agree those are two of the weaker Campaigns structurely, they both offer a lot of material to work with, and Hoard has a major head start.

As usual with sales data, the results make a lot of sense of corporate decision making in the past decade.

Hat-tip to @ersatzphil for bringing this to my attention, thought this might be of interest to the posters in this thread. Roll for C9mbat with guest Professor Dungeon Master take a look at professional book sales data limited to big box stores like Target, Walmart, Barnes & Noble, or Books a Million im the US only, so excluding any FLGS or Amazon or bon-Amerucan sales. Apparently not including Amazon or hobby channels or non-domestic data, the 5E PHB has sold over 1.6 million copies, and is selling 2000 copies a week currently. There was no effect on sales during the OGL fiasco, but Honor Among Thieves did lead to a sales surge for a while there (2000 is the regular, steady sales rate). The 5E PHB has sold over ten times what the 3.5 PHB did in the same channels, which UCLA apparently has determined equates to about 75% of the usual book sales market (but might be far less for a hobby game, so take this as a minimum to talk about relative sales).

The DMG has sold over 800,000 copies in these channels and the MM over 700,000. The commentators seem confused thst there are only two PHB sales per DMG, but my experience is that usually the DM owns the sole PHB in a group, so thst tracks to me.

Apparently Hoard of the Dragon Queen is the all time best selling Adventure, and still sells regularly in these channels, followed by Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, Curse of Strahd and Tales from the Yawning Portal. Worth a watch, sorry if thisnis off-topic @darjr but this seems like a good place to put the info out.

No worries. This is a great find!

Very interesting stuff, worth watching in full. I listened while at work, so I couldn't take a look at most of the publishing industry charts the BattleZoo guys put up, but they went through a lot of detailed comparisons of the info from these channels. They also do some back of the envelope math, and figure that even assuming the most gargantuan sales from other channels, and assuming a very low paid subscriber ratio, Beyond probably massively outpaces the books. UT that theybalso forse WotC continuing to put out books even if they become a minority of their business, because they have such a big footprint and are iconic to the brand.

Can you post a new thread with this?
