How did I miss this wonderful thread?

In no particular order of unpopularity:

Fudging die rolls is a degenerate practice. Period.
It's bad enough when cheating payers do it; GM's that indulge in this foul practice need to be called to account!

Most "Professional" RPG designers have their jobs largely through enthusiasm, persistence, and desire. Actually being good at mechanical game design is observably not their greatest talent...

There's no excuse for the lack of playtesting by RPG publishers that ship games with systemic issues spotted virtually at launch.
Why must I un-Bork your game!?

Funky Dice FFG Style RPG's are a gimmick that will fade away into RPG footnote obscurity after they lose their popular IP licenses.

If your RPG's playability is greatly increased through digital VTT automation; It is an example of bad game design.

WFRP has a great setting with the Old-World that has been perennially plagued by mediocre system implementations.

RPG's are not a storytelling medium.

Organizationally, and rules implementation wise; AD&D1e is a hot mess. But most every other RPG has been a conceptual regression since. And it's not their fault because Gygax couldn't be bothered to lay things out in a clear fashion.

Mmmmmmm.... that felt so good...

The newer BSG was very, very good - For the first couple of seasons. Then it lost its way a bit, and then, the ending was the worst ending to a TV show ever, IMO. So bad that I will never rewatch the show no matter how much I enjoyed the first part. It was just terrible.
Same. I was overjoyed that they were doing a reboot miniseries, loved that it was picked up, loved the first few seasons, then it hit a brick wall. I still think it’s Star Trek: Voyager done right. At least the early bits.

I was being conservative there and mostly just sticking to things that had some vague publication quality, but given that FGU alone had about 20 RPGs at one point, spread across at least 15 systems--yeah.

I mean, its easy to forget how many companies (not all of them obscure, at least at the time) have come and gone across the period between 1975 and 1990...
And it's easy to forget how easy it is for an avid gamer of the era to miss out on some games. Even if those games where huge. As an example, I've never played Traveller or Star Frontier. I know a lot of people who never played Gamma World.

Season 1, Episode 1 ("33") is one of the best single episodes of television I've ever seen. Just a masterpiece.

Well, even those of us who played two days a week (or maybe more) had only so much time, and it wasn't like that became more available over time.

(And of course there were all the cases of games that you read and said, for various reasons, "Oh, hell no!")

Yes, the OG series is the best, and the reboot version did an awesome job - except for gendre swap, (Mandalorian had similiar fate too, but the primary was still on the show, in voice only, lol) though the digital Cylons would have been better in real real FX. But that would have been expensive. I recall, for some reason, the producers lost interest supporting the series financially and wanted to can the show before completion. The fans kept the show alive every year, and the writer had to scramble to get the primary storyline out. Thus why the we had that missing year where the BS crew were prisoners of war in a Cylon base camp. The writer pleaded, as did the fans, to keep the show going but the producers gave one last year to wrap it all up. This is the reason the storyline was fast paced to a flashed ending. Neat to know the BS crew are the aliens of our lost ancient civilizations.
Very disappointing and sad for the production crew and writer who believed in the project.

I don't know if this is an "Unpopular Opinion" or not, but the Triple-A video game publishers seem to think so:

NO video game has ever been worth $60.

Sorry, Baldur's Gate 3; I'm going to wait until you're at least half that price. I've waited this long, I can wait another 18-24 months.
If you think that's bad, with the thousands of hours of writing, coding, playtesting, creation of art assets, voice over work, creating a soundtrack, etc...wait until you hear about this other scam where an analog pen and paper game costs at least $50 per book...and you need at least three books to play it.

I certainly don't know enough about the video game industry as a whole. But I know this much: lots of studios manage to make awesome games for a fraction of that price, sell millions of copies, and still keep the lights on. They're doing something right.

With all the beta released games not fully polished and still sold at $80+ CDN with special Deluxe deals costing $100 and more? None are worth all that money anymore. It's Best to purchase primary game only on sale then pickup the DLC extras after because they seem to hinder gameplay IMO, with story overlaps confusing the story direction and goals becoming overwhelming to figure out what to complete first without uncovering spoilers from newer DLC packs.
