I am a solid maybe. I’m going to wait until reviews hit. I recently picked up Monsters of the Multiverse because it was on deep sale on Amazon, and I was real surprised at how neutered the lore was for so many species, to the point of neutering some and making utterly boring others. If the new books are nearly half as boring as that, then no, I won’t be buying them.
The lore that we've seen for the Tales of the Valiant versions of classic D&D monsters is very strong, IMO. Worth checking out their sample PDFs on their site, if you haven't. One of them is basically a stripped down monster manual with a few dozen critters.

No, but mostly because I am not interested in giving WotC money again after the OGL Debacle. If I decide that I need updated 5e rules for whatever reason, I will go with TotV.

Cool, thx mate for the heads up, I’ll check it out. I love the Tome of Beasts books, and the Race books Kobold Press have put out (their take on the Drow is awesome.) Haven’t checked out ToV yet, so now I will!

After seeing so many people 180 from “this is obviously incompatible with the 2014 rules” to “this could have been done with errata,”
I actually wonder if there is a significant number people did that specific 180, or if we're actully seeing different groups speak up.

It makes me think of the complaint I hear "You complained about this, so we changed it, and now you're complaining that we changed it." which usually isn't accurate because it is different people speaking up who have different opinions.

Anyone here actually frustrated that the early playtest was too different from the 2014 rules and is now still frustrated, thinking that the new stuff is little more than errata?

Maybe, I don't know yet. The playtest packets have been almost exclusively player focused, even the gm facing stuff seems either a deliberate miss or was missing the other half needed to complete targeting of a gm "pain point".

As a GM I've yet to see anything worth shelling out money for, To be completely honest that's largely because I'm no more impacted by packets [1-4] &6 than a couple extra subclasses & magic items would cause. By extension that has a pretty massive impact on if my players do.
