D&D (2024) Are you going to buy the new 2024 D&D Core Books

Do you plan on getting the new D&D core books in 2024?

I'm putting myself down as a maybe, but leaning towards no. They pretty much killed it for me with some of the playtests, everything was looking great then they made some decision I felt were just plan ol' bad, like wizards having a spell to create a spell (not everything needs to be a spell, guys), and going back to the original subclass structure.

Still, who knows, maybe they'll make changes again that makes me lean more towards yes.

So far they don't look much better than 2014, and I skipped that whole edition. Will be picking up the PS books because <3 Tony <3 but otherwise my only interest now is making 5E-compatible stuff that WotC would never make and then finding another game to invest in.
This is probably going to be the last 5e book I buy, and the first which will be the special edition.

I actually wonder if there is a significant number people did that specific 180, or if we're actully seeing different groups speak up.

It makes me think of the complaint I hear "You complained about this, so we changed it, and now you're complaining that we changed it." which usually isn't accurate because it is different people speaking up who have different opinions.

Anyone here actually frustrated that the early playtest was too different from the 2014 rules and is now still frustrated, thinking that the new stuff is little more than errata?
I did a 180. Though they’ve definitely moved back much closer to 2014 than we were initially seeing.

It was always going to require a needle to be threaded. Can’t help if they missed to the left too much the first time and now overcompensated and missing too much to the right.

I've just been browsing this forum and apparently there were some things I missed that are pushing me further to the "no" camp. They've gone back to class spell lists and they've brought back pact magic, both things which I feel aren't a great design choice. Looks like any chance of me switching back to yes is becoming slimmer and slimmer.

For me it’s about supporting the hobby and the game. If you’re playing D&D 1 or 2 times a month+ it’s already the cheapest hobby you’ll ever have.

If you’re a self professed non-customer who will never spend a penny on DND 5e or any future editions then you can’t expect WotC to care much for your opinions.

If you’re on the fence about adopting the new ruleset then that’s cool but be prepared to be slowly but steadily left behind. As a general principle it’s better to change by choice after detecting which way the winds blowing than by being forced.
