D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

(btw are we at the point in history before the Githzerai and Githyanki split?)
No comment on the monks, but my (admittedly limited) understanding is that the Githyanki/Githzerai split happened in the distant past.

I don't think we have a specific time range, but the Githyanki's initial post-split leader Gith (who disappeared after travelling to Baator to forge a pact with one of the archdevils - Dispater, I think) was succeeded by her advisor Vlaakith I. That Vlaakith is a direct ancestor of the Githyanki's current ruler Vlaakith CLVII, who is not only the 157th of her name (if I'm converting the Roman numerals correctly) but also a centuries old lich in her own right.

Assuming a human-like 20-25 years between Githyanki generations and that every Vlaakith was succeeded by a daughter bearing the same name for an unbroken 157-long chain to the present, that puts us well into the 3-to-4000 years ago range before even accounting for the current Vlaakith's lich status or the fact that the Githyanki primarily live on the Astral Plane which, being explicitly timeless, gives the Githyanki theoretically infinite lifespans.

So it's been a while...

So, I finally got around to the Marcus/Isobel fight (don't judge, I've been very enjoyably taking my time with my main group and having fun leveling secondary groups like my all-halfling crew). I've read about how it's such a hard encounter, and how it's almost impossible to keep Isobel out of Marcus' hands, and... huh, I took out Marcus in the second round, with Gale's fireballs and Shadowheart being a walking murder blender with spirit guardians taking care of most of the rest of his minions.... Isobel took a single hit the entire fight that was easily cured. I can only guess that too many people were rushing to the inn seriously under-leveled from the reports about the fight I had read lol...

It took a couple attempts, but when I realized I could just nova the guy (and every solo or near solo boss after that sadly) the whole game got a lot easier.

The first time I did, the winged horrors absolutely bum rushed her. Before I could blink she was down and out and taken away.

Second play through, trashed them. Spirit guardians I think is a big factor here, it might prevent the horrors from ganging up on isobel. I will say things are A LOT happier if you save her.

hehe BG3 bosses are little different than 5e bosses, at the end of the day bounded accuracy means no creature can really stand a concerted assault from the party.

man its really cool just how much stuff you can miss on a playthrough and see in the next.

This one I felt was a major reveal to me so I'll put it in spoilers.

Big spoiler for Baldurian History
The Illithid is Balduran! Holy cow I did not see that coming. Its funny because in this run my guy was planning to betray him and free Orpheus....but now....I mean can I turn my back on the legend? Though even the Emperor admits he is that man no longer....hmm

She ran into a corner of her room away from Marcus, and two of the winged horrors reached her, but only one hit. Another one was just outside the door. A fireball and spirit guardians made quick work of them (stationing Shadowheart with spirit guardians in the door is probably the best strategic choice in the fight). My Tav paladin (smites) and Asterion (sneak attacks) took care of Marcus (with help from Shadowheart side swiping him with spirit guardians as she passed by headed towards Isobel). The couple of other winged horrors were kept occupied by Jahiera and the other Harpers until I could join in to finish them off.

Karlach, Lazeal, Astarion, it doesn't really matter what they are class wise. At least, not that I've experience yet.
Karlach has a few scripted moments when she goes berserk and smashes everything.

And there is some mechanical stuff. Karlach's quest leads to her getting +1d4 fire damage on melee attacks, so you want her doing as many melee attacks as possible to get the most from it (monk?). Astarion's vampire bite is a bonus action melee attack, which makes him a slightly better skill monkey. Halsin gets some really interesting stuff "for free".

As for Lae'zel, I can't really see her as a merry bard...
