D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

I have sort of hit a difficulty wall and I think it is because I do not have an AOE caster. I think I might have to restart.

Also, wishlist: I want a warning window to pop up if I am about to cast a concentration spell that is going to end the concentration spell I already have going. I don't know how many times I have screwed that pooch.

Ok I know I’m praising this game but I just finished most of grymforge with my deep gnome. Might be the most immersive experience in gaming where the hero wasn’t set from the beginning. The duergar/deep gnome dialogue was beyond words. Not sure if say a human has the same

Anyone have strange glitches since last update
-sometimes the portrait for companion 4 has a blank pic
-sometimes when say crossing a canyon sometimes 1-4 just doesn’t follow?
-sometimes with a fresh startup the graphics take a few to load completely

Yup.
Plus every time I go into my main PCs menus she flashes like she’s leveled up or something. Sparks and sound and everything.

Why restart? Getting yourself an AoE caster is a few minutes' work respecting.

If you have Withers (in your camp) it's 100gp to turn any character you think is lacking into something more to your liking.

The amount of times I’ve respecced characters…

I just found gauntlets that give 18 Dex. Re-re-sppecced my Ranger Karlach and re maxed out her str and let the gauntlets takeover dex duty.

This is going to sound stupid but:

That feels like cheating.

I can't really explain it, and I know the tool is there just for that reason, but it feels weird to take Shadowheart and just flip her to evoker.
Her class is important to her yeah but like Astarion he can be whatever. Mines a monk. My Karlach is a Ranger/Rogue. Lae'zel can be anything. Gale can be respecced to Evoker. I plan to make Minsc a Barbarian.

You can keep Shadowheart a Cleric and multi into Arcane if you want.

Get a Hireling.

With only 4 party members at time you almost have to respec here and there to not pull your hair out. Especially if you want to the story bits of certain characters. I never want to use Warlock Wyll but I feel I need him for his story bits at one section. I keep him as a Warlock though but he was a Warlock/Rogue for a bit (until I gave Karlach the rogue duties).

Do you not have Gale, Wyll, or either Druid? Did you kill all four of them?

All of them work well enough for the relatively few situations where you genuinely need or hugely benefit from an AOE caster.

Shadowheart with Spirit Guardians (as well as other spells) is actually more powerful in some mass-target situations than they are.

Personally I went through the game with my team as Bard, Karlach (Barb/Monk), Lae'zel (EK Fighter), Gale (Div Wizard) and the only AOE spells I cast significantly were either AOE CCs on the Bard (many of which can be cast by other classes, particularly Clerics) and Ice Storm from Gale. Otherwise the multiple attacks from the melees absolutely trashed people, especially doing like, "efficiency moves" like picking up one enemy and throwing him at another enemy with Karlach. Oh and a fair bit of Cloud of Daggers if you consider that AoE, as you can make it do ludicrous damage by knocking enemies back into it and so on.

I wish I'd made more use of Spike Growth, though, that's an amazing spell.

Where do you get a hireling?

Gale died when he first appeared. I have both Wyll and Halsin in camp. I have not used either in play though: Wyll because I am playing a warlock myself, and Halsin because druid.

I am doing something wrong, tactically. I got beat to hell and back by the Duergar after rescuing Nere, to the point of just leaving him to die in the cavern and heading back to the mountain pass. The first fight in the mountain pass was a choke point full of undead and they cleaned my clock. Even Karlach isn't able to eliminate targets fast enough for it to help.
