Clearly the only correct way to know the quintessential 90s song is to look at the first and last #1's of the decade. The bookends, so to speak.

According to Wikipedia the first #1 of the 90s was Michael Bolton, How am I Supposed to Live Without You.

The last #1 single of the 90s was Santana's Smooth.

This proves that the 90s music charts were dominated by the mums and dads of the era.

I would push back on this a little. For the record, I hated grunge, because at the time I perceived it as affecting peoples' attitudes towards heavy metal. But I distinctly remember how big grunge was after stuff like Smells like Teen Spirit. It was unmistakably huge and completely altered youth culture. And it had lingering effects, which is what I think allowed for stuff like Ska to gain the traction they did. Before grunge people looked a lot more clean cut and preppy. After the youth culture felt like a 70s resurgence to me. It is just there were other things going on and other things that also were popular with people (and not everyone was into grunge).
I have never had a reason to hate grunge... until now!

Although Spider-Man is probably my favorite superhero of all time, I overall prefer DC over Marvel.
Spider-Man, IMO, is probably the purest distillation of American superhero comics. Peter Parker is a hero even though it absolutely ruins his life, repeatedly.

Bruce Wayne dressing up as Batman isn't a heroic sacrifice; it's just him avoiding going to the therapy he desperately needs.

I prefer pre-1998 DC Comics to Marvel overall, but when the company inexplicably decided to go all-in on grim and gritty, it may have permanently damaged the company that gave us what are still the most popular superheroes of all time. If we're lucky, David Zaslav will sell DC Comics off to someone who will take the steps necessary to return the line to what the public, historically, has most loved about it.

I was and remain much more of a Marvel guy, but again with about the same cut off as you (pre-comics crash).

Ska, Swing revival, Nu Metal, I attribute it all to the supremacy of grunge in the early 90s.
Im not sure I follow how grunge ushered in these trends, but third wave ska should be considered torture by the Geneva Conventions...., or any convention really.

After all, hes not the first nor the only person whose come to the conclusion that 4e is a tactical action-minis game first and RPG second (if at all).

I think theres still enough vestigial RPG in 4e to say that that assessment isn't really accurate, but I think the vestigial nature of those elements is still problematic.
How is 5e D&D different from 4e D&D, as far as this contention is concerned?
