21st May 2024 is the official release date!

Update--WotC has taken down the promo image and replaced it with one without a release date. See more here.

I think they'll have the info they need to push forward with ironing out the final math. May was earlier than I was expecting, but...it seems plausible.
Plausible but unlikely, IMO. Certainly (again, IMO) not as ironclad as the title of this thread makes it sound. (I'm not faulting Morrus - the tweet sure makes it seem clear.)

At this point I'm really curious how much it will be a new edition.
And what they are going to call it.
Judging from the playtest and its survey results:

2024 continues to be 5.0.

2024 has important cleanup, clarification and calibration. But nothing in it is beyond the scope of a Xanathars or Tashas update.

I agree. I think we're done with PHB stuff. Not that they won't still try to fix whatever "we" (those that fill out the survey) don't like about this one - that's the whole point - but I don't think that they'll feel the need to show us what that looks like until it's done.
Yeah. If the designers feel a need to doublecheck a specific issue in the 2024 Players Handbook, they will probably interpolate a "special" UA, like Bastions, rather than a regular UA, like Playtest 8.

I don't think they're quite done with PHB stuff altogether - I think there's still a bunch of spells that need fixing, there's probably some Feat stuff too - but I imagine it'll be bundled into DMG and MM UAs, similar to how the Bastions and Cantrips packet combined DMG and PHB material.

Oh yeah, you're right. I think we're done with the Classes, which is the "big thing" in the PHB, but you're probably right that we'll see more spells and feats tucked in here and there, if only to show of some stuff.

I suspect, spells is something that the designers feel they have a handle on, and − hopefully − will recalibrate all of the subpar 2014 Players Handbooks spells.

We don't even know that there will BE L8 feats! (They seem to be backtracking on L1 feats and using a "Background" keyword in some feats instead!)
Yeah.

I like the term "Background Feat" because it clarifies that this is something different from "level 1", after taking levels in a class.

"Background" might be, the new 5e technical jargon for what was "level 0" in earlier editions.

Still, no clue about level 8 feats.
