That was my immediate though on seeing the title, 'wouldn't it make more sense if they were licensing it?'I poked around a bit on this one and - get ready for a shock - it's complete owlbear dung. Tencent is trying to secure a license to make D&D video games. They're not trying to buy the D&D brand or IP.
Actually, I have spoken with "topo D&D people" hundreds of times over the years. That being said, even I am in a bit of shock about this. But I have worked with Tencent in the past, and I know this industry pretty well. The whole reason I put out my initial video is that I found this possibility very real and something that would make sense for a lot of parties. Stranger things have been known to happen. He only spoke with top D&D people like once, and it was more focused on the upcoming VTT right? If that's the case I definitely wouldn't count that as an insider.
Declining sales is not failing? BG3 was the only bright spot last year for D&D, which was mostly due to Larian Studios, who's major investor is Tencent. I wouldn't discount this rumor just yet.D&D is not failing, no one is replacing it, and even if something did, Hasbro could not buy that if they sell D&D because Hasbro is struggling (not D&D)…
Seems more probable, but also not likely since Hasbro is setting up WotC as a video game subsidiary now.I've heard elsewhere on reddit Tencent is looking to buy video game adaptation rights to D&D, not the entirety of D&D itself, but like not a regular licience, this would be to produce whatever D&D games they want period.
In my opinion the facts and records you bring to the public eye do seem to stand on their own. Your conclusions and speculation have been less so, again imho.Actually, I have spoken with "topo D&D people" hundreds of times over the years. I'm going to make the same comment I made on your video. I stopped watching your videos when you insisted on including the shocked woman's face over and over. But this video? I finally shut you off from my feed so I won't see your videos pop up any longer. It's not only clickbait, it's irresponsible. 5 minutes of research would have given you your answer, instead you create a video about false rumors.Actually, I have spoken with "topo D&D people" hundreds of times over the years. You hear a lot of stuff in a lot of dubious places, HD. Reddit is not a source.I've heard elsewhere on reddit Tencent is looking to buy video game adaptation rights to D&D, not the entirety of D&D itself, but like not a regular licience, this would be to produce whatever D&D games they want period.
