DND is no longer a cash cow, it's bleeding to death.
1) The OGL upset too many players & tons have quit, moved on, stopped buying.
2) The new content is garbage compared to the old content, especially since their push to be "diverse", "equity", and "inclusive".
My LGS has sold ONE DND source book in the past 8 months, only ONE! The owner says that all his clients pick up a book, glance through it, and complains WotC has gone too woke; they won't buy it.

All the retailers I’ve talked to have said sales have gone back to normal or close to it. Amazon sales seem to be doing really well too.

For the PHB. Which is still crazy good sales, especially compared to everyone else, maybe even combined.

Is it enough for Hasbro? That I don’t know.

If yuh have facts please share.

Hasbro goes up and down - like most companies. The change in the markets is different this time - but it has been different before. Acquiring an IP/product that would have 3X revenue and using their capabilities to give it 10X or 20X revenue is a tradition with Hasbro - and one of the ways that it recovers from downturns.

As for D&D failing: We'll know by the end of 2024. This is the first time they've seen such massive competition at the time of release of a new edition. They have a lot invested based upon the assumption they'll have almost the entire market share. Daggerheart and Tales of the Valiant will both have the potential to a.) become alternative sales, and b.) disrupt play groups that can't decide on a system resulting in more groups ending due to frustrations over the game system 'forced' on people.

D&D might skate through just fine. They may also see a huge underperforming against expectations in the highest revenue per edition years they normally have. We'll see. If Daggerheart, in particular, ends up being a really strong system that people like ... it could be significant.
I doubt they’re even trying to get “new edition” sales. If they were, they’d be marketing it like a new edition, not just a special anniversary update to 5e D&D that will continue to just be 5e D&D.

Like the last couple years would be complete unmitigated nonsense of a “lol random run into a wall for no reason” level, if they are shooting for “new edition” sales expectations.

Nonsense.

Nope.

And there it is. I knew it was in there somewhere. It always follows “D&D is failing”.

You need a better game store. Though the idea of a game store owner so incompetent that they’re only able to sell only sell one D&D book—of all things— in 8 months is admittedly hilarious. Who’s that bad at running a game store? I want to visit just to laugh!

Also — read the rules before you start ranting nonsense about woke agendas. Because you won’t be around here for long if you keep that up.
