...MMO based on 4E? I never played it but im guess it was like Turbine's DDO in that it was a live action hybrid of 4E.
I remember a time when this implication would be so outrageous that people would get kicked off the site for badmouthing each other. Even putting "MMO" in the same sentence as "4E" would immediately send certain folks into a frothing rage.

A 4E Tactics game, especially if they fixed the broadly agreed-on math flaws in 4E, remains a beautiful dream. A 4E MMO remains a deeply confusing premise. Sliding a target 1 square during real time combat with 40 player boss battles?? :3

It makes a lot more sense if MMO just means 'what I call games I don't like' instead of 'a game I have remotely played'.

Like I would LOVE a tactical non-FPS MMO, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't happened.

I know Atari/Turbine had the MMO rights which they based on 3E (but live action hybrid not turn based). Though, at the very end wasnt there a Neverwinter nights MMO based on 4E? I never played it but im guess it was like Turbine's DDO in that it was a live action hybrid of 4E.
Was? Is!

Both D&D Online, based on 3E, and Neverwinter, based on 4E, are still being actively supported.

At the time WoW was tearing gaming groups apart and seen as a direct threat to D&D. Times change. Though, the sentiment stays the same.

We're talking about rules systems.

This is not how 4E works: https://neverwinter.fandom.com/wiki/Combat

"Combat Advantage works as a direct damage multiplier whenever you have combat advantage against your target. "
Yup.

Baldur's Gate III is based on 5E, and is a very faithful adaptation of the tabletop rules.

D&D Online is based on 3E, but makes changes to the system in adapting to the medium.

Neverwinter is based on 4E, but made even more changes to the system, and has evolved significantly since launch many years ago.

"Based on" does not mean "is the same as".

It has basically no mechanics in common with 4E except having more than one at-will attack. Even the "encounter" powers are instead in WoW-style cooldowns.
