Your attempt to equate a clickbaity article about WotC selling a book to Lin Codega’s coverage of the OGL crisis is borderline insulting to all those who were involved in that situation.
Discord has to start somewhere...

D&D players: "There are some issues with the game. Could you tinker around with it a bit and fix some of these problems? Especially since it's been 10 years since the original books."

WotC: "Sure. We'll go ahead and work on those problems and release an updated version of the core books."

(Some) D&D players: "Why are you exploiting us by giving us exactly what we've been asking you to do?"

More like

“How can we get them to buy the 3 core books again?”

Did you ask them to rewrite the game? Who was it? You vaguely hand wave and use a generalization. Why not just make some more great content, like Ravenloft, instead of fracturing the community?
I was waiting for an update. After ten years, fixing bugs and updating the core is expected. Why should new players use 10 year old books. I have players that were 5 when the books were printed.

Some parts of the old books feel rushed a bit and a re quite outdated. And some things have needed an update for quite a while.
