D&D General The Double-Edged Sword: Is The New D&D Edition a Cash Grab in Disguise?

A decade between updates is in no way a "constant churn of editions". That may have been true for 3 and 4, it isn't any more. Add in that the old rules, modules, monster manuals are still compatible and your argument just doesn't hold water any better than a sieve.
According to whom? WotC marketing? Take a look at the play test... IDK how "compatible" its really is going to be.

sigh and you just accept it like a good little consumer.
Until capitalism falls and we institute a fair socialist society ala Star Trek, it's what we're stuck with.

Then again, WotC has promised the SRD in the CC will be updated to the 24 version. If they follow through, those parts will be free and freely given. Even free to use in your own projects. So maybe cash grab is a little premature?

I skipped 2 e for reasons.

I skipped 3.5 because we just got 3.0 books.

I bought them resold 4e books pretty quickly.

I have most 5e published material and still enjoy it. I don’t think I am “exploitable” by WOTC. I look at it and don’t buy it if I don’t like it.

Of course this 5.5 is to make money. No, I don’t think it was desperately needed and it’s ok. Some of us might want it…I might buy some of it. They have no control over me.

See, and that's again going to be a problem, that makes your old books will be completely obsoleted as the rules would no longer apply to them. Why not keep both SRDs?

But they do because newcomers naturally gravitate towards the latest edition, leaving veterans forced to adopt the rules if they want to play with them.
