D&D General Tier Rankings of the main D&D Campaign Adventures

I don't have Golden Vault and Radiant Citadel.

How do they compare to the other 3 anthologies? Radiant Citadel art was a turn off tbh.

The only ones that I've run/played in full are "Storm King's Thunder," "Lost Mines of Phandelver," and "Dragons of Icespire Peak."

I'd put them all firmly in the A-tier.

2 of then beling in A tier;)

BUT a lot of this is DM skill. If you have a good DM any adventure can be fun.

For me a good or bad adventure comes down to how much work is required to make it a good adventure.

Storm Kings Thunder is the weak one there but it fits my DM style for me.

SKT and DiA are kinda weak imho but they make decent source books vs something like Rime of the Frost maiden which is a mediocre adventure and a meh source book.

I liked Curse of Strahd, Rime of the Frostmaiden, Planescape*.

HotDQ and Out of the Abyss were okay.

Princes of the Apocalypse was a bad time.

*Planescape is a great adventure skeleton that takes quite a bit of prep time to flesh out into a full campaign. The adventure book is only 1/3 of the product so this makes sense to me.

I have run the Stormwreck box set since this thread was started. It has morphed to the after Icespire series that were the free one put out on DDBeyond. I keep wanting to get and run Saltmarsh, but at this point it looks like I might stretch things until the new box set comes out later this year.

These are based on only the adventures I’ve played and/or read all the way through. I’m not ranking something I haven’t at least read in detail.

Tomb of Annihilation (DMed)
Keys from Golden Vault (DMed)

A-Tier
Waterdeep: Dragon Heist (DMed 3 times)
Lost Mine of Phandelver

Out of the Abyss (Read)
Ice-wind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden (DMed for three sessions, read)
Ghosts of Saltmarsh (Played)
Candlekeep Mysteries (Read)
Tales from the Yawning Portal (Played/DMed/Read)

B-Tier:
Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage (DMed)
Dragons of Stormwreck Isle (read)
Dragon of Icespire Peak (read)
Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk (read)

Princes of the Apocalypse (read and ran half)

D-Tier
Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus (DMed)

These are based on most fun to DM, most fun to play and most inspirational.

Unrated.
