D&D (2024) 2024 D&D character sheet, what do you think?

That is exactly why I gently push any players of mine to consider using this version instead. I really love that it gives a space to write any sort of proficiency, and doesn't bog it down with text for all of the skills that are just identical to the base modifier.

For new players I prefer this sheet...

It's an improvement, but there's top much focus on the attributes, instead of focusing the sheet by function. Saving throws and AC should be on their own "I'm getting attacked, what do I report?" section, class features/attacks should be grouped by action type in a separate combat page, etc.

Isn't combat already in its own spot on this one (upper right)?

I imagine ability scores are prominent in part to help with the flow of building the character (I think they said in the instructions in the book would have a part keyed to the character sheet).

If saves are all based on ability and you want things separated by use, wouldn't that mean having the ability scores in two different places? (Once for ability/skill rolls, and once for saves)?

From other photos I've seen, the new one is only 2 pages, which is much more convenient.

2 gripes though
A) the spells section should have a spot to write in how many spells I can prepare
B) The large box should be for ability score

What about the gridded style for some blocks or the space given to some areas. Also I see passive perception given a prominent position, it always seemed to be problematic.
I fully agree 110% with you.

I guess I just don’t look to WotC for innovations when it comes to character sheet design. This one looks like a pretty version that will work just fine. And it will definitely continue to “dig in” on certain subtle impacts of existing rules on players that I think are negative overall.

Which is totally fine. Us fans will come up with great sheets that cover many possible permutations of what info get prioritized.
