D&D (2024) 2024 D&D character sheet, what do you think?

darjr

I crit!
ThinkDM posted something about the sheet and I wondered what folks here thought.

D&D's new character sheet fell into a common trap. Grouping skills by ability is bad design. It's easier to find information searching 1 box, not 5. New players don't know what skill matches what ability. You know what they do know? The alphabet. Sort skills by alpha.

I agree with @Nikosandros about not liking the grouping of skills with abilities.

I think this looks a lot easier to find stuff on (picturing my players) than the current one, and could be a big help. I particularly like having those key numbers up at the top with the combat things right below.

Also note that alignment isn't on page 1.

What about the gridded style for some blocks or the space given to some areas. Also I see passive perception given a prominent position, it always seemed to be problematic.

I want a "DM's Party Sheet" that has things like each characters HP, AC, and Passive Perception.

Do players ever use passive perception themselves? (As a lower limit on what they roll?)

I don't think I've ever really liked an "official" D&D character sheet. Even back in 2E days I used to use character sheets from the Armory.

With it being the 50th anniversary, they ought to have a sheet that has a soft leather shoe for movement and a space for the character's will.

The organization of skills would confuse the heck out of my casual players.

Then again, I never call for a intelligence check followed by the player having to specifically ask if they can add their intelligence bonus like they're show in the image below. Way too clunky after you've explained how things work once or twice.
