I would generally suggest checking whether the old subclass gets stuff at the same levels as the new subclasses then adjust as you see fit. Shifting old level 1or 2 subclass features to level 3 should not be a big deal.
For many, but for clerics and sorcerers no longer having a role-changing/enabling subclass from first level can hurt party composition and dynamics.
 

The only subclass I can think of that "doesn't work" is underpowered under the new rules: the Hexblade warlock, since the signature feature is now folded into Pact of the Blade.

(Although that one's still an interesting pick because it gives proficiency with both medium armor and shields, which requires two feats under the new rules)
