D&D General Gnome Paladins

Is this some kind of internet joke I've missed or something? I've seen a few references to the combination here and there, and it seems to presented as the absolute joke race/class combo and/or the worst possible thing someone can play. Granted, it's not an optimal choice in 3e, and it really doesn't fit the usual gnonish archetypes, but it's not utterly unplayably bad either. It's just a very unusual combination.

I truly believe that the only reason that WoTC keeps Elves and Bards in the game is so that no matter how bad you choose, you can still say, "At least I'm not an dead-eyed, soulless Bard."

In other words, Elvish Bards are kinda like Mississippi.

Ptobably a combination of the species that some people play as annoying and the class often played as annoying.

I'd say in 5.24 they will finally be a great combination.

Not everyone optimizes their PC. Sometimes you just roll up a character and us the mechanical shortcomings as fodder for replaying.
