I actually like this series. Yes, there are serious lore flaws, but it's not that bad as modern TV adaptions go. If the show is allowed to run its course it will probably serve as a pretty good prequel story to the Jackson trilogies.
In one way I guess I've resigned to the fact that for someone to pour multi-millions of bucks into a show, it gotta have broad appeal components to ensure viewer numbers. So we have cute hobbits, cartoon dwarfs, bad-bad orcs, stupid-smart elves, a prolonged de-stupification of Gandalf, etc etc. But the basic story flows on in an entertaining way.
As I've said my whole life, if it has swords, spaceships, magic or ray guns in it, it's worth watching.
