D&D (2024) Hobby Store Exclusive (Special Cover) PHB Pre-Orders Cancelled

I try not to get on the "everything WotC does is awful" bandwagon. But jeez, that bandwagon looks like a pretty sweet ride these days.

It isn't that they are spectacularly evil. They're just so amazingly bad at engaging with the D&D community. And that's an ominous long-term sign, because this game lives and dies by its community.

My preorder has been delayed but not cancelled (yet). I really don't care for the art on the standard covers, so if I can't get the alternate covers I probably won't get the 2024 books until they are deeply discounted.

This could be a major flub up for WotC on the overseas market. I can't believe this is actually happening and someone didn't catch this before this time.

From what I've heard (and I just found out about this in the past hour, so many of you probably know more than I) is that around 90% of the alternative pre-sales in Oceania (including Australia and other areas) and Asia may be affected by this, and it may be wider spread than that.

It is an international situation.

What gets me even further is that the comments of no plans for a reprint. I am...floored. What PR rep is handling this???

Oh...that's right...

Ha...okay now...I get it. WotC and Hasbro lost a pretty decent individual handling these types of public fiascos just recently. This is trial by fire for the new person covering it. I'm not sure this is going well right now.

They should at least work on getting a second printing out ASAP and assure publishers that this printing will come out. I think whoever said there would not be, is of the opinion that it will lose money anyways as those who pre-ordered will not be willing to wait for the alternative issue to be printed up again (and they may be right...I don't know on this).

Talk about a disaster occurring.

I hope those that pre-ordered it get the book, but I'm hearing grim news about some areas and the alternative cover.

This is Australia and New Zealand. I don't know about other regions. We are hardly going to invade the US demanding our alt-covers books.

Theoretically one can source it from the USA but the postage is horrendous.

Cheap here is similar to the retail price in USA (not Anazon price)

Throw in postage and yeah.
