I wasn’t sold on this show from the previews but that first episode was awesome. Colin Farrell has really become one of my favorite actors.

Loved it.

I was suprised to discover this show, didnt know about it til this week.

I liked Colin Farells take on the character as a fundamentally unlikeable survivor. I liked their take on Sofia Falcone too.

Really hoping their Victor isnt a take on Victor Zsasz, that would be terrible casting, especially given how well Gotham did with it.

I really liked it... I wasn't sure if I would. I mean, I like Batman. I like The Sopranos. I guess I should have known I'd like this.

Though... people do keep comparing it to The Sopranos. Other than him visiting his mum in a little wooden house, I'm not really seeing any other similarities (well, obviously they're both the same broad genre). Also The Sopranos is very much an ensemble cast with a lot of well-fleshed out characters (though Gandolfini is clearly the main star), whereas this is more focused around Penguin. Well, at least so far--we're only one episode in.

But yeah. This was waaaay better than I had dared hope for!

Colin brings a certain every man charisma to the role. Sometimes he is a looming brute, sometimes he is a total dope, other times he is actually pretty witty for the moment. The comparison is largely (for me) about the main character portrayal and less about the mob trappings. Total James Gandolfini vibes off of this.

I get The Sopranos only in the respect that they’re trying to humanize and give the audience a main character to relate or at least sympathize with, despite being a mobster. And of course, he fits a more Tony Soprano mold of mobster than a Michael Corleone style mobster.
