I'll say, the middle was kind of losing me. It started feeling like ye olde mobster story. The end really brought it back, but yeesh how dark and depressing. Overall, a great show.

And the Penguin is not so much of a joke villain anymore. He is dark, ruthless, twisted, and cunning.

I think they did a really great job of blending the different origins and looks over the years into the character. I can't help but think of the Crown Point tunnels as being a kind of call out to the Danny Devito version of the character living in the sewers. He's often seen carrying around the umbrella. There's the tuxedo. But now we actually have an origin for why he wears that kind of anachronistic tux, and it totally makes sense.

Cleaned up.

It has taken me a long time to get around to this. I started watching with my Dad but he was not really interested so it got on hold after episode 3. I just finished episode 5. It is, however, a timely moment for a little necromancy because as you may have heard Cristin Milioti won an Emmy for her performance as Sofia. I know The Penguin is helped perhaps in the awards department by being a very grounded show. But it is still nice to see more recognition for roles that are sourced from comics and geek culture.
