I was wondering Is it just the audience who can't hear his answer or is it others as well?
It seems clear to me from Agatha's reaction both times that she cannot hear him. She did not have any witnesses at the time, so she should try again now that she has others around (but I know they won't, at least not until a dramatic moment).

Yeah, good point. It's pretty obvious Agatha can't hear what he's saying either (especially since in the car, they make a point of showing her turning up the radio to check that it's not a problem with her hearing), but it will be interesting to see if it's just her (and us) who can't or if it's everybody.

I actually finished watching at 9:35 but I momentarily forgot to comment!

I was not really that thrilled by this episode. We got a great name drop and a tiny bit of backstory for Agatha but the episode otherwise was... slow. And when they finished the first trial I was all ready for them to move onto something a little more exciting in the back half of the episode, but it was... over? WTF?

Who forgot to put Sharon's hair in the sink?

And I stand corrected -- they did it again in this episode and the other coven members could not hear him either. I apologize for underestimating the writers.

Agatha's reaction also suggested she had a good idea what was going on though. So really it's just the audience who is in the dark, Agatha knows enough to make an educated guess as to what he said, and therefore doesn't need to look for a work-around.

I did not publicly predict this, but I thought that Mrs. Hart was going to be Rio in disguise. I guess not now. Man, these writers know how to throw me off the prediction train.

I think there is still room for a twist in this regard. An amended version of the rule might be, "They're not really dead unless you've seen the body and moved on to the next scene."
