D&D (2024) The New DM Tools In The New Dungeon Master's Guide

The 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide contains a 'toolbox'. The DM's Toolbox is the third chapter in the book, presented as an alphabetical miscellany of varied things to help you prep or run a game.

Each entry is 1-2 pages long and includes things like creating monsters, fear and mental stress, chases, firearms and explosives, and traps. For example, it goes in depth into chases, with details about wilderness or urban chases.

Much of the topics were already in the 2014 DMG--albeit organized differently. Some new topics include character death, and more detailed look at alignment--and how actions determine alignment and not vice versa.

Also included is a big table of 'dungeon quirks'--why, then, and by whom was it built? Examples include made by giants (with everything being larger scale), built on top of a cloud, and so on.

There's plenty more stuff--environments, a settlement tracker (Chris Perkins and James Wyatt roll up a random settlement in the video), hazards, mob rules, marks of prestige (rewards like deeds, medals, or titles).

Not just weird, I would say it's downright arrogant on their part to think they could create "content" for a game they haven't even read all of the basic rulebooks.

Yea, it would be even worse if thousands of people were somehow tricked into thinking they got good advice, commenting on their videos about how some insight from the creator helped them. And now, now they realize they were never helped and that insight has been erased from their mind, because it turns out that creator did not read a book cover to cover (because, of course, as you know since you watched her video, Ginny Di did read parts of the DMG, just not cover to cover)

Oh wait... I watched that video and the value I got out of her previous videos did not suddenly vanish like the morning mist before an afternoon sun... strange.

Just started watching the DM Toolbox video. I foresee the dwarf with a shotgun piece (at 1:11) being the next art kerfuffle. Especially from people who’ve actually held any kind of gun before, but especially a shotgun. At least someone caught it and lampshaded it with the text.

It's obviously a magical shotgun.

I'm sorry if anyone has already said this, I only read up to page 10 in this post.

Is there a practical difference between the two when discussing "they didn't mention this in the video, therefore they must be removing them?"
possibly, I see a difference between ‘this is how a chase works’, ‘this is how to do exploration’ and ‘you can also change the duration for a short/long rest’. Might be different chapters

I have read the DMG, both cover to cover, skimmed and checked out specific topics and I always found it a difficult read, from the point of view of remembering what is in it.
It also had a problem with organisation, in that, one could remember that it had some relevant info but not where it was. This made it less useful for reference at the table, this was less of a problem with preparation.

I have only read through the new PHB once but I think it is more readable than previously. If this is also the case with the new DMG, that will be a huge help a long with better organisation.
