New Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Guide Art and Details Revealed

The marketing cycle for the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide is underway. Wizards of the Coast has released the first video and accompanying article previewing the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide. Wizards has already told fans what's actually in the new 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide, so there's not much in terms of actual new details. The video/article revealed that the Bastion system got another look from designers after its initial Unearthed Arcana playtest, that there will be a DM's Toolkit for everything from "alignment to traps," now arranged in alphabetical order, and that there will be 400 "new and improved" magic items.

The 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide will also be the home of rules for crafting magic items and a new Greyhawk campaign setting guide, with a focus on showcasing how Greyhawk can be customized or be used as a model for homemade campaign settings. Finally, the Dungeon Master's Guide will contain a lore glossary and a full chapter about D&D cosmology, the latter of which helps to drive home the idea of the D&D multiverse.

While much of this information was already known, the video and article did show off a LOT of new art, some of which can be found below:

Not what I was doing:

It was showing recognition to why the characters were designed the way they are and how the players I encountered were super cool.💙

It was more your previous post in which you assume a game style of people based on hair colour...

...Who cares about ancient stories and myths that have been passed down for centuries, I want to be a pink & purple haired Minotaur (3ft. tall with 20 STR) that's LOL RaNdOm that likes to hang out at the local human pub (where they are warmly accepted, of course) to meet all her equally quirky bestest friends in the world to get up to some shenanigans, tee-hee-hee.

which comes across a bit condescending and judgmental.
I appreciate that you’ve come to realise that the kids are alright, though 🩷💜
Personally, I’ve really enjoyed getting to share the game with new players over past decade.

There's a bit of light reflection at the bottom of her eye, that's all. If she was looking any further to her left she'd need a periscope to see out of her nostril! ;)

The light reflection is what could make you think that she's looking more downwards if the reflection were the center of the pupil and not the lower half of it. I don't think it's that far fetched that some people's eyes and brain interprets it differently, especially when this type of visual interpretation is prone to variance.

The artist just responded themselves. The halfling is looking at the dragonborn.

not what the artist said, they said pointing, and that it is tough to paint them all facing the viewer while shouting at each other.

Which begs the question why they all had to face the viewer instead of having them in more natural stances / orientation for the scene that this is supposed to depict. Haven’t gone through all the art, but I would expect some chars in it to face away from the viewer too

EDIT: yes, they do

Unless the halfling is telling something to take the dragonborn first, you generally look at people you're pointing at. 🤷

and generally your face is oriented towards where you are looking 🤷

This would really have been helped by arranging the characters better / not have them all face the viewer

You have never talked to someone to the side of you without fully turning? Really?

In any case, we know the halfling is pointing at the dragonborn and not pointing with her wrist. The artist chose not to have her fully turned because if she had been fully turned the beholder could easily have been in her peripheral vision. Which at that point would have spoiled the whole point of the party not paying attention.

This picture, that spurned so much controversy here, was included in the last frame of the latest WoTC video that dropped today about magic items - very briefly, and with no connection to the discussion.

I think we’re being trolled

without having my head turned instead of looking in a completely different direction? no, or at best while driving a car and focusing on the road

That was not the reason given, and I doubt it is the one, otherwise the dragonborn should be facing a different direction too
