D&D General Greyhawk Map Compared to Earth

For a little fun, I took the 2022 map and overlayed it on a map of Earth to get an idea of how large the maps compares.

I think the scale is a fairly accurate representation. Obviously there are map projection issues, but this was just for a bit of fun so I'm not overly concerned about that.

Enjoy. :)

EDIT: I added the new map as well. The scale ended up making slightly smaller, but pretty close.

Latitudes are slid too far north. For instance the northern coast of the Thillonrian Peninsula is just south of the 55° latitude. Dorakaa is about at the latitude of Minneapolis.

Just eye-balled it by the location of the ice-zone along the north of the map and trying to place that around the arctic circle.

The one on the left.
Best estimate given the scale would be (for the land) about 15 million square miles (mainland "Flanaess" and surrounding region) and 4.5 million square miles (sub-contenient "Hepmona"?). It is probably signifcantly less, however, since I can't easily adjust for polar distortion.

Together larger than South America, but smaller than North America, maybe? By comparison, Australia is about 8.5 million square miles.

🤷‍♂️

Square miles or square km? The USSR was about 8.5 million sq. mi. at its peak, modern Russia is the biggest country in the world and is only about 6.5 million.

A 15 million sq. mi. Flaeness is almost the size of Asia.
