D&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

Replying to my own post because I'm a weirdo.

One of the things that struck me abotut 5E early on was how much playing it felt like how I remember playing AD&D 1E felt like. I couldn't explain to you why that is. Maybe it's the complexity level, or the robustness and soundness of the system as a whole.

Has anyone else had this experience, or can anyone explain how they're similar?

I went from OSRIC and Labyrinth Lord to 5e with grognard players online in early 2015 and it definitely felt comfortable, to them and to me. We weren't using Feats or multiclassing, PHB classes. Players who would never play 3e or 4e were happy with 5e.

It's 1e!

It will always be resurrected, because 1e has a high-level cleric around and will survive the resurrection check with its high constitution!

But mostly, it gets necro'd to annoy me.

This edition (1E) enjoys the highest nostalgia and experience rating so far: three-quarters of all votes are in the "Played it and loved it" category. More than any other edition, and it's not even close.

Whatever else we can say about 1E, we all have to agree: the formula worked.
