D&D 5E Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

yeah, that is where you lose credibility…
I'm losing credibility?

Someone here has flat out refused to accept actual facts and has repeatedly stood by false information, despite having the facts repeatedly pointed out.

But I'm losing credibility?

"Silence means consent"? Really? That's the phrase you want to use? You just might want to think very long and hard before applying that.

And, really? You missed the part where I talked about people spreading misinformation? Funny, someone must have hacked your account then, @mamba, considering you responded to me and argued with me for several posts:

You missed my point. Nearly all the "gates" that people get worked up about are subject to so much misinformation and outright fabrication, that it's very hard to take anyone's outrage seriously.
(Note, the "You" in that quote was actually you, @mamba.) So, I'm rather curious how you can claim that I hadn't been repeatedly talking about how the spread of misinformation makes these things rather hard to take seriously.

I'd also point out you spent considerable time having a go at @AlViking for not being 100% accurate with the facts, yet, here we have someone flat out misrepresenting facts - demonstrably so - and you're having a go at me for not being credible.

I’d like to see two things happen.

1./ Anyone selling products/kickstarters etc should have to have this tagline attached to their posts or read at the start of their videos. “I make and sell alternative products to those I am discussing and therefore I may have a financial interest in what I am about to say.” The lawyers can sharpen up the language but you get the point.

2./ YouTube and Twitch should have a little counter overlay on the video that shows how much money has been generated by that video.

Let’s be more up front about the financial interests people have in making some of these statements. Sound fair?

Admittedly, some YouTubers remind me of that guy in the first Clerks movie shaming customers about buying cigarettes and supporting tobacco companies when he was actually just representing chewing gum companies.

“Down with WotC and D&D!! Buy my fantasy RPG books instead (don’t forget to like and subscribe and use my coupon code at my sponsor’s shop)!”

And in the nature of being open and more upfront I think it would be a better look if the OP @SlyFlourish was clear and upfront that outside of his own 5e products, some of which compete directly with WotC products, that he has also been a financially compensated contributor to TotV (another D&D competing product which he promotes on these boards) and has also been paid to promote and discuss TotV on at least one, if not more, of his videos by Kobold Press. Is he an employee of KP... Nope but he has a very clear vested interest in getting people to go with TotV and or his own 5e products vs. WotC.

Slyfourish has been pretty good about this though? I never got any opportunistic vibes. Always adding to the community, offering tools and techniques to support players and DMs.

Disclaimer: I’m not affiliated LOL

How did you find out about that??

Oh, that's right. I said it on my youtube show when promoting KP's work or spotlighting their products.

This might blow your mind but its possible I wrote for them and spotlight them because I believe in their work. I also wrote pieces of the Tales of the Valiant Monster Vault and yet continue to extol the virtues of the A5E Monstrous Menagerie (which really is a fantastic book and looks to be a more useful book than the D&D 2024 Monster Manual).

I also got paid by Hasbro and received review copies of the D&D 2024 books and gave positive accounts of the 2024 DMG but you don't seem to be complaining about that. How come? Why is my connection to Kobold Press the one that bothers you and not my connection to WOTC?

I used to be a big fan of Slyflourish (especially his Shadowdark run of videos) but recently he has, IMO, been leaning more and more into anti-WotC rhetoric (especially after the PHB blur issues). Now I get it, you're trying to make your money but let's be upfront and transparent about that as a content creator, freelancer and publisher.

Because you're not actively pushing for people to drop or stop playing TotV....are you?

On the flipside you've had no problem doing that for D&D both here and on your channel for awhile now. Does that answer your question?

It’s not really about not wanting to build a community. I’m sure everyone wants to play the best games they can play. I also have no problem people making money doing what they do. I just think people should be very wary about the appearance of being independent when instead they have a financial interest.

Nothing would make me happier than going to my competitor’s social media and saying how we do 90% of what they do for 50% of the price. The problem is there’s something opportunistic and underhand about that so we don’t do it. I was glad to see the pushback on Kobalds hatchet review of the DMG which was really just an advert for their own product. In SF’s video linked previously he makes it clear that one of the reasons he made the video was to promote his own Kickstarter.

That said I’m quickly coming to the conclusion that because ‘all publicity is good publicity’, this stuff has little or no impact on WotC. It’s the community it is destroying. The negativity and sniping divides us, it doesn’t divide the publishers, it’s an opportunity for them.
