D&D 5E Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

I'm not throwing it away because of Hasbro. I'm throwing it away because it doesn't spark joy (any longer). Specifically, I've played so much 5e to the exclusion of all other games until last year, that I think I've had my fill of it for life. I'm ready to play ANYTHING else.

This is false.

There are MANY departments at the Pinkerton agency. The have a Protection department, with many sub groups. A Consulting department with many sub groups. And an Investigations department with many sub groups.

People, like yourself, often mistake all Pinkertons as being from the Protection department. Those are the guys historically often described as thugs by some, and who are sometimes armed. Even that is partially a myth. There is controversy right now about some rich people hiring private firefighter services to protect their homes in Pacific Palisades from the fires (successfully). That was probably part of Pinkertons Protection services. They do that. In fact, they invented the World's Fair Fire Department for the 64' World's Fair. And they're not armed and not thugs. Mostly just retired firefighters.

However, Protection is not who WOTC hired. WOTC hired from their Investigation department.

I know someone who worked in their Investigation department most of his life until he retired. He never left his desk. There are investigators who, like the two involved in this incident, do go out in the field. But they're not thugs looking to intimidate. They're actual private investigators working on investigation matters on behalf of corporations.

They literally have an entire sub-department dedicated to "tracking down stolen property". They are part of Loss Prevention. They are detectives. And in states which license them, they're literally licensed detectives.

People should step away from these images they have of this company that come from history and, more often, movies and TV. Pinkertons, particularly those outside the Protection department, are usually nothing like the image many people here seem to have of them.

Poor Pinkertons. So misunderstood...

If only it were possible for them to change their name.

Remember Blackwater? They had a huge controversy when hired to quell dissent in New Orleans after Katrina and then act as a mercenary company in Iraq (with critics saying they operated outside the military code of conduct).

So they changed their name. Twice.

If the Pinkertons has this terrible reputation for strike breaking, why not let go of the name?

Unless that reputation is valuable to them.

This might blow your mind but its possible I wrote for them and spotlight them because I believe in their work. I also wrote pieces of the Tales of the Valiant Monster Vault and yet continue to extol the virtues of the A5E Monstrous Menagerie (which really is a fantastic book and looks to be a more useful book than the D&D 2024 Monster Manual).

Here we go... MM isn't even out yet but you had to disparage it for...well I'm not sure for what particular purpose in this post but hey it's your ( mostly uninformed) oppinion.

Sure! If you're not digging 5e, there are tons of awesome games to enjoy.

Where did I disparage the Monster Manual?
Did you or did you not throw in a line about it being less useful than Monstrous Menagerie? Without stating any basis for said oppinion and with the book not having been released yet?

What relevance did that line even have to our discussion... to show the fair and non biased way you judge books??

The ogl disaster that was reversed and resulted in the core rules being put into creative commons? Why does that matter two years after they reversed direction?
At this point its just something the rage people can use to point out to make their every anti-wotc point seem that much more horrible. You'll never get them to see otherwise.

I'm confused. When I say one book is better than another, that's disparagement?

You must be from the future then because you're judging a book that hasn't been released yet. Moreso you're judging its usability without having seen it used in the wild... so yeah stating book A is better than book B without ever having seen Book B... I'd call that disparaging it.

And if not I guess we could call it... uninformed nonsense? Clear bias showing?? Bad review standards...which one would you call it?
