Yup. It seems to have a "silly" vibe I do not want personally.Seemed quite tongue in cheek too from what little I read of it

Exactly. I want the subject taken seriously, and that book is full of comedic references and web comic art.Yeah, the non-seriousness of it and the art style I think turned quite a few folks off. I have the copy Beyond gave out, but I've only browsed it but never used it because of the tone, so I can't comment on the mechanics.
D&D. Serious Business.Exactly. I want the subject taken seriously, and that book is full of comedic references and web comic art.
Laugh all you want, but I'd rather keep the silly at the table and out of the books.D&D. Serious Business.![]()

I just pulled it off the shelf to give it a look and got to the third page and saw a picture of some guy looking like a swashbuckling Errol Flynn with a wry smile fighting a mechanical beholder...back on the shelf it goes. I always thought this was more of a source book but taking a second look its actually an adventure. Having it officially set in the Forgotten Realms with such a humorous tone makes me not take it seriously.Exactly. D&D has always been silly. I remember little comics in the 1e PHB and DMG, ridiculous monsters like sentient jello and flumphs, and plenty of pun names (Melf, Medium Rary) and joke material components (bat guano = potassium nitrate = gunpowder). Silly is D&D's middle name.Laugh all you want, but I'd rather keep the silly at the table and out of the books.
Does Level Up count?A book written ENtirelly by Enworld. It's the only way to ENsure we get what we want.
* 5.5e splat book versions of the Complete Book of (insert species) here. Starting with the Dragonborn. What do you want WotC to publish for D&D in 2026?
There is a great Pathfinder 3pp Adventure Path called Way of the Wicked which is easy to convert to 5e and does exactly this. It details a party of forsaken criminals and heretics destroying and eventually taking over the kingdom. Full of all the advice you’re talking about. I’m running it for the third time. Once when it came out, once for 5e and now currently for WFRP 4e.Ooh, another thing I’d like:
A book where we switch it up: PC’s are evil, DM uses “good” NPC’s.
The book would be filled with solid advice on making an “evil” party, villainous subclasses, rules for having minions, becoming a lich, etc.
And for the DM a good guide on turning the story around, without allowing antisocial behavior or crossing boundaries. Add some good NPC monsters, celestials and the like, and you could have an all-time classic book.
