I'd stay away from social medias because they tend to split people more than bring them together. And even though I like Discord has an app, Yochai has made his point as to why it's not the best choice of a discourse space.

Honestly I only looked at getting back into forums like EN after Reddit's controversial API changes.

But yeah, RPG.net seems.. slooow.

Reddit is a messageboard and it's enormous. It's not that they're dying, it's that they're on Reddit.

Besides, people have been repeating that as a truism over and over for 15 years, but we're as busy as we ever were.

Hmm. I would argue that Reddit is not a message board. it has some similarities, but it lacks the key feature which is one continuous conversation, instead opting for the “nested replies” structure.

Also Reddit’s up/down vote thresholds being built into what you can see on it, ensures that any even mildly controversial posts disappear from public perception.

Besides, people have been repeating that as a truism over and over for 15 years, but we're as busy as we ever were.

If I keep repeating it eventually it’ll come true! Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

(Oh. For young people: see, an analogue clock with hands would work like….)

Reddit is good for reading people's perspectives, but I don't feel like it is good for having discussions. I don't know if it is structural or algorithmic.

I didn't say it was a good messageboard. But it is a messagebaord (or collection of messageboards), and it's a BIG one.

Messageboards used to have nested replies, and Xenforo (the software we use) has a setting to enable that.

Also Reddit’s up/down vote thresholds being built into what you can see on it, ensures that any even mildly controversial posts disappear from public perception.

You can view it in order of new posts first too.

Both platforms can do what the other does; it's just what the default setting is.
